Why I Hate Valentine’s Day

February 14, 2008

I don’t like being told when to be romantic or finding that I have to pay a premium because I succumbed to the pressure. It’s a commercial event more than anything else and it’s getting worse every year. When I started to get Valentine Gift Suggestions email from the internet suppliers I use to buy components for my PC it was the final straw. Imagine the scene, nice restaurant, candles and you hand over a SATA 250Gb hard disk…somehow I don’t think you’d hear “Oh, you remembered how much I wanted one with an 8MB buffer”.

Surely the whole point of being romantic is that you don’t have to be told when, you just do it as and when the mood takes you.
